John Kuhn is a photographic artist from Middletown, Maryland.  Primarily a self-taught photographer he has studied photography for nearly forty years.  John studies the works of the master photographers and has amassed a large collection of photography books to which he frequently refers.  He enjoys and is inspired by the work of Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Alfred Stieglitz, Andre Kertesz, Paul Strand, as well as a few current photographers like Tony Sweet, Bryan Peterson, and Clyde Butcher.

  John recalls many years ago spending lunch breaks at a local used book store pouring through Ansel Adams' books, listening to classical music, and dreaming of finding and photographing the perfect landscape.  He credits this solitary time for stirring the love he has today for nature and the natural landscape.

  John is a member of the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick Maryland, Frederick County Arts Association, Frederick Camera Clique, Washington County Arts Council, and the North American Nature Photography Association.  Although John will take pictures of almost anything he specializes in nautical scenes, seascapes, landscapes, and fine art nature photography. 

  For more than 35 years John has participated in group exhibitions and in 2010 he was awarded his first solo photographic exhibition at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, Maryland.  In 2011 he was selected as one of two featured photographers in a photographic exhibition sponsored by the Washington County Arts Council.  Since then John has been awarded eleven additional exhibitions.  Although John regularly shows his work in solo gallery exhibitions he continues to also submit his work to juried art exhibitions where he has garnered numerous awards juried against all mediums of art.  Currently his work can be viewed and purchased on this website and in the Gallery Gift Shop at the Washington County Arts Council Center in Hagerstown, Maryland as well as numerous local monthly gallery exhibitions.  His work can be seen in both private and corporate collections.  John also regularly posts to his Instagram page johnkuhnphotography.
